Exciting Updates & This Year’s Show at the Haven 🎭
Dear Families,
We have some important updates about our programs at the Haven. The property has been sold to the Healing Institute (more information below), who will operate year-round addiction recovery programming serving a small number of participants and supported by an experienced, professional team. We will continue running All-Stages programs by renting space from the Haven Foundation, which holds a lease agreement for the next seven years.
Our programs are designed to help kids develop grit, perseverance, and adaptability — all while having fun, exploring their creativity, and playing in a supportive environment. Over the years, the Haven has seen many changes, and we have always adapted to ensure our programs remain engaging and well-managed.
Program Updates & Next Steps
- Program scheduling: In the past, Haven and All-Stages programs sometimes ran at the same time. Going forward, there will be either a Haven program or an All-Stages program running, alongside the Healing Institute, which operates year-round. Some adjustments to All-Stages programs in 2026 may be needed, and we will keep you informed as the schedule is finalized.
- Roles & operations: The Haven Foundation will still manage accommodations and food bookings, All-Stages will continue to manage program registrations (upgrades are in progress!), and the Healing Institute will handle all operational aspects, including running the kitchen and introducing an upgraded food experience — yay!
- Dry campus: Alcohol and drugs are not permitted.
- Program size: Programs may be slightly smaller than in past years, and we remain committed to providing an enjoyable, well-supervised, and fun experience for all participants.
Spring Break Programming: Our Spring Break programs are proceeding with a small location adjustment:
- Mini-Launch will take place at the Haven.
- KITS Spring Breadk will be held at the Bethlehem Centre in Nanaimo due to ongoing renovations.
We’re excited to bring KITS to a new space this Spring Break. Families can find directions and site information on the Bethlehem Centre website.
Summer Programming: New registrants are currently waitlisted with deposits not required (if you have sent one, rest assured we are keeping track). Once spring break planning is complete, we will contact already registered summer families to share any changes and discuss choices.
We know the experience will look a little different this year, and while some aspects, like accommodations or scheduling availability, may change, these updates bring important upgrades to the infrastructure and food options to support the program experience and continued presence at our spiritual home.
🎭 Major Announcement – This Year’s Show!
We are thrilled to announce that this year’s show will be Guys and Dolls! The show is the culmination of the kids’ hard work, creativity, joy, and playful spirit — a chance to entertain, serve, and celebrate together as a community.
A friendly heads-up: Kids and youth will have full spoof privileges, so the show may look very different from the classic musical, and expect laughs, surprises, and cameos from a shark or two!

What’s Happening at the Haven — Key Context for Our Community
Transformation with continuity at the core.
During the New Year’s program, the collective word chosen by participants was Transforming. That intention feels especially meaningful now. While change can touch places and memories we hold dear, transformation can also be how core values are protected and carried forward.
The Gabriola property has a new owner.
The Haven property has been sold to The Healing Institute, an organization dedicated to trauma-informed recovery from substance use and long-term healing. They will operate a 50-day residential recovery program on the site.
The Haven is staying — and so are our programs.
Importantly, Haven Foundation will continue operating on the property. This includes Haven programs, leader-owned offerings, and a range of wellness-focused retreats, conferences, and events. These programs will run alongside The Healing Institute’s work.
All-Stages programs continue as planned.
Our All-Stages programs will continue to run by renting space from the Haven Foundation, as they have in the past. The presence of The Healing Institute does not replace or diminish youth, family, or leadership programming.
A shared commitment to safety and care.
Existing policies around safety, appropriate conduct, and shared use of the site remain in place. In addition, infrastructure and facility improvements are already underway to support everyone using the space.

Dr. Carson McPherson, Founder & CEO of The Healing Institute, has emphasized a deep respect for the Haven’s history and community. He describes the Institute as stewards of the land and neighbours, committed to listening, collaboration, and preserving the spirit and purpose of the Haven for generations to come.

2026 Program Frequently Asked Questions
Will KITS be held at the Haven this summer?
Yes. We plan to hold Kids in the Spotlight (KITS), LAUNCH, and Families in the Spotlight (FITS) at the Haven this summer.
We will continue to share updates as program schedules are finalized.
Is the Haven property changing?
The Haven will remain the peaceful, welcoming place that families know and love. Some buildings, including the Lodge, are currently being refreshed and renovated by the Healing Institute, with the intention of updating and improving the space.
Will families have to stay in dorm-style accommodations?
No. Family rooms will continue to be available for All-Stages families.
Will my usual room still be available?
Many of the Haven’s standard Forest-view rooms will be available this summer. Some rooms are being reserved for other on-site programming, which means a specific room may not always be guaranteed.
We understand that room familiarity can matter, and we are committed to ensuring families have a comfortable and supportive stay.
Will the Haven still be running their own programs? Will they overlap with All-Stages programs?
Yes, the Haven will continue to run its long-standing programs. As part of our ongoing collaboration, the Haven and All-Stages work together to coordinate schedules and ensure programs are thoughtfully planned. The Haven’s lease agreement gives them full use of a specific number of rooms and meeting spaces, which we will fully use during our programs so there will be no more overlap with Haven programs.
Our shared goal is continuity, safety, and a positive experience for all participants on the property.
Who is responsible for accommodations and daily operations? Will amenities or food change?
- The Haven continues to manage accommodations and meal bookings.
- The Healing Institute oversees overall site operations, including a refreshed kitchen with new culinary leadership and staff.
Families can continue to enjoy familiar amenities such as the pool, hot tub, and gym this summer.
What is happening with Spring Break programs?

Can families still register if they are staying off-site?
Yes. Families staying off-site may continue to register for All-Stages programs at the Haven, just as in previous years.
If we’ve prepaid, are refunds available?
Yes. We understand that transitions can bring uncertainty, and we want families to feel supported in their decision-making.
If a family feels that program adjustments no longer meet their needs, we encourage them to contact us directly.
- Program fees: All-Stages will offer refunds for families who choose to withdraw due to these changes, up until May 1. After this date, refunds may be limited as program planning and staffing are finalized.
- Accommodation fees: Refunds for lodging are handled in accordance with the Haven’s refund policy, including timelines and cancellation windows. Families are encouraged to review Haven’s current refund policy directly on their website for full details.
In the event that a program is cancelled or undergoes a significant change, refunds will be provided.
